How to reach Padua

By plane

The nearest airport is the Marco Polo Airport in Venice, 40 kilometers east of Padova.
It conveniently linked with all major European airports.

A convenient alternative might be flying to the Verona airport, which is connected to the Verona Porta Nuova railway station by a bus service.
There is a bus every 20 minutes, running from 6:35 to 22:35 airport to station and from 6:10 to 23:10 station to the airport.
Fare: about 5 €. Padova can then be reached by train (approximately 50 minutes).


Some low-cost companies fly to the Venice Treviso airport, which is connected to Padova by bus (see timetable of SITA; the fare is about 4 €).

A last possibility might be flying to Bologna airport, which is connected to Bologna Centrale railways station by a city bus.
Padova can then be reached by train (approximately 90 minutes).

From Venice to Padua

To travel from Venice airport to Padova you can choose:

Bus service
Buses from Marco Polo Airport to Padova-Piazzale Boschetti (65 minutes ride). See timetable of SITA.
Piazzale Boschetti is 10-15 minutes walk from the city center.
Fare: about 5 € per person.

Frequent buses to the Venezia-Mestre railroad station (20 minutes ride; tickets should be bought before boarding the bus). Padova can then be reached by train.

By train
Padova is both on the Venice-Milano-Torino and on the Venice-Rome railways; many trains are available (see timetable of Trenitalia).

First and second class are available; for fast trains a supplement is required, and in some cases a seat reservation is mandatory: so, specify which train you are going to board when asking for a ticket.

All tickets (both round-trip and one way) have a validity of 2 months; before boarding the train, it is mandatory to validate them by using the yellow machines located on the platforms and throughout the station: penalties are applied to the infringes.

By car
You might consider renting a car.
Padova is linked by freeways with Venice, Milano and Bologna. All the freeways in Northern Italy require a toll, paid when exiting. A ticket automatically issued to the driver when entering the highway is required for payment.
